The Grand Theatre in London Ontario is seeking a senior level Director of Marketing, Communications and Sales with strong leadership and strategic planning skills as well as demonstrated experience in leading and motivating sales and marketing teams.

This senior position reports directly to the Executive Director and collaborates closely with the Artistic Director, and is a member of the senior management team.

As the Director of Sales & Marketing, the essential duties include but are not limited to the development and execution of operational strategic plans, brand management and execution, advertising, design, promotion, audience development, subscriptions & single ticket sales, integrated marketing & communications, corporate communications & public relations, customer service, front of house, box office, research, government grant applications support, negotiation and management of media deals, agency management, and overall budget management.  This position will work closely in partnership with the Director of Development for the integration with and creation of sponsor activations. Revenues exceed $5+ million annually and growing.  This position will oversee 5+ direct reports with indirect overall department staff responsibility for full-time seasonal support and volunteers at 100+.


The ideal candidate will have direct proven experience in:

  • Audience development with subscription and single ticket campaigns including loyalty and acquisition campaigns
  • Developing research tracking and mining data to inform long-term strategies, as well as using market research and real-time available data to adjust and respond to opportunities
  • Digital media driven campaigns/ MOGO Arts and/or relevant digital tracking systems and software
  • Integrated approach to sales, marketing, communications, brand
  • Effective corporate partnerships/ sponsorships/ strategic alliances to drive brand, audience development and revenues (cash and contra)
  • Integrated customer service programs
  • Relationship building internally and externally across all stakeholder groups (customers/patrons, donors, volunteers, staff, government, sponsors, community & business associations, partners etc.)
  • Partnerships & promotions with key stakeholders, sponsors, media, community to drive revenues and audience growth
  • Content capture, creation and distribution specific to leveraging internal content to drive marketing and communications strategies.
  • Hiring and developing teams.
  • Working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Demonstrated ability to identify new opportunities, improved systems and operations, been part of a team that has envisioned the future and developed new &/or evolved existing systems to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
  • Tourism marketing & promotions, with connections to and relationships within Toronto specifically, and broader London ON region
  • Existing relationships within theatre/arts communities including media, in both London area and Toronto.
  • A passion for theatre and the arts

Required Qualifications:

  • University Degree, relevant college degree or experience
  • 7-10 years in a senior sales and marketing position with minimum 3 direct reports, minimum revenues of $3-5 million
  • Leadership and/or coaching certifications or training
  • Experience hiring, managing and developing talent within team of direct reports
  • Strong track record of relationship building cross-departmentally and with external stakeholders
  • Proven experience in improving operational systems and efficiencies designed to improve work-flow to better meet stated goals
  • Experience in design and production across media, and strong understanding of current technologies available to leverage, demonstrated interest in digital media
  • Track record in driving revenues through subscriptions/single tickets and marketing partnerships/ sponsorships
  • Experience in sponsor activations
  • Experience in market research and audience development
  • Strong budgeting, analysis and forecasting skills
  • Entrepreneurial and innovative thinking skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Experience within arts organization an asset
  • Relationships within London and Toronto media an asset
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends, as required
  • Live in London, ON or re-locate to London, ON
