Choreographer – High School Project Outdoors
Contract Position

A leading cultural hub, the Grand is proudly located in the heart of downtown London, Ontario. We are a place for all to gather, discuss, challenge, debate, celebrate, and be inspired and entertained by exceptional theatre experiences.  A not-for-profit regional theatre, the Grand produces and presents professional theatre on two stages: the Spriet Stage (~800 seats) and the Auburn Stage (~150 seats).

A typical season at the Grand runs from September to May including an annual fall High School Project production, which has a 23-year history as an integral part of our programming.

The Grand is World Curious and London Proud.  We bring the world to London with diverse, relevant, and original stories from around the globe, and through collaborations with exceptional national and international performing arts organizations.

And we bring London to the world stage with a commitment to developing, producing, and premiering new and original stories through COMPASS, our new play development program. In partnership with artists and playwrights from around the world and around the corner, we present relevant, provocative and entertaining stories that remind us of our collective humanity.

The High School Project – a rich tradition at the Grand Theatre

The only theatre program of its kind in North America, The High School Project (HSP) began in 1998 with West Side Story. Since then, the Grand Theatre has produced 33 High School Projects.

The HSP offers an exceptional opportunity for students to receive education and training in the working environment of a professional theatre.

In a traditional (non-Covid impacted) year, high school students from London and area are mentored by professional artists and coaches in all departments (acting, stage management, props, wardrobe, scenic art, sound, lighting, orchestra, and photography) culminating in a full-scale musical production on the Grand's Spriet Stage. The initiative provides leadership, creative, and communication skills that serve these students on and off stage - in every area of their lives.

Last Summer/Fall as a result of public health measure in place, the Grand worked with 59 students in a ‘High School Project Online’ – a series of masterclass online events. Small cohorts of students demonstrated their learnings by pitching various productions through online presentations to a judging panel provided feedback on their work. Of the 59 participants, 90% were new to the HSP program and collectively expressed positive feedback on their experience.

High School Project 2021 – Outdoors
The Great Grand Road Trip

The Grand Theatre’s High School Project is back for 2021 in its most creative, collaborative, and imaginative edition yet! And this year, the High School Project is going OUTSIDE!

This safe, flexible, hybrid model that can easily pivot at a moment’s notice according to current public health restrictions will combine outdoors and virtual programming. Theatre-loving high school students will come together to build a community for three weeks through the collective creation of a summer theatrical treat!

The final product will be THE GREAT GRAND ROAD TRIP, a love letter to London, Ontario in the summertime. Students will be outdoors exploring some of Londons favourite landmarks with curiosity, and imagining the possibilities for theatrical magic. Participants will be rethinking some of their favourite musical numbers in new, exciting ways—and outdoors! Think of it as the biggest, sprawling summer musical revue ever.

The Grand Theatre is looking for a London and area-based Choreographer for this year’s High School Project — THE GREAT GRAND ROAD TRIP.

You are an innovative and creative thinker.

You are familiar with, and curious about, the creative possibilities of choreography for the camera.
