Fact Sheet: Accessibility

The Grand is committed to arts accessibility by providing ongoing improvements to programs, facilities, and services that support an extraordinary theatre experience for all patrons. Below is a summary of new and existing services.

  • Open Captioned performances have been added to the theatre’s 2017/18 season schedule. The text will be captioned in real-time by Vickie Turner of Turner Reporting & Captioning Services. Designated seating is reserved for best viewing of the stage and screen.

  • ASL-interpreted performances were first introduced at the Grand two seasons ago. Additional performances have been added to the schedule, see below. ASL English interpreters, Rosalie Vissors and Angela Core, study the script, rehearse, and do a transliteration of each line. They meet with ASL consultant, Anselmo DeSousa, for feedback on their ASL rendering, as well as stage protocol most conducive for an ASL audience and movements that are cohesive for live performances.

  • The Grand now offers new, state-of-the-art assistive hearing devices with the generous support of Bentley Hearing Systems. The systems by Listen Technologies are compact and feature an integrated neck loop that automatically senses and sends optimized sound signals directly to hearing aids and cochlear implants. Click here for full specs. Patrons can use the supplied headphones or bring their own.
     
  • Staff and volunteers will have basic ASL training.
     
  • An ASL ambassador will be available in the lobby during the ASL- and open captioned-performances.
